The COVID Pandemic left us with a problem, how do we still find the best homes for our residents while keeping staff, volunteers, and customers safe? With this question in mind, the Virtual Adoption process was developed. We started by bulking up our adoptable pet profiles on our website to provide more personality information, more photos and more videos – allowing potential adopters to get a real feel for how the pet may fit into their family. Our adoption applications moved online, allowing potential adopters to instantly apply for the pet of their choosing. Upon approval, we set up a Meet & Greet for the family to come in and meet the pet, using COVID safety protocols. If it goes well, the family may be able to take home the new family member that day! The new Virtual Adoption Process often shortens the entire adoption process, eliminating the need for the adopting family to make multiple visits.
Since the Humane Society introduced Virtual Adoptions to the community in March, we have adopted out over 450 animals – almost identical to the amount over the same time frame in 2019. In fact, we have adopted out more cats so far this year than we did at this time in 2019.
